Rabbit Bites YouTube
Rabbit Bites
has a long history of firsts: The first real television
program on the internet, the first successful show with real rabbits, and the
first show with talking rabbits. Buns and Chou Chou were the first rabbit
journalists with the courage to tell the truth about the state of online video
and vlogging (we apologize, but it really needed to be done by someone). In the
latest of these glorious accomplishments we now are the first again.
Please, no applause, just throw...errr...carrots.
When
Lee Gomes
of the Wall Street Journal reported some of
YouTube's
statistics in August, he began his article with a qualification: "If the
data from YouTube are to be believed..." Well Lee, we have been been
digging around
YouTube
with a rodentine feverishness, and have concluded that another real story might be how their stats are being
generated. Lee , we only have four paws each. Could you help us to
straighten this out, and get to the bottom of it? We're just a
couple knuckle-headed rabbits, so what do we know?

You have to be popular to stand out!
We are popular. That's how we became two of the best known rabbits in
show business. And popularity is how one stands out in the modern visual Babylon known as
YouTube. There are many categories that measure popularity on the site such as
the most viewed,
top rated,
top favorites,
most
discussed, etc.
These categories are further divided by time periods: current day, past week,
month, and all time. This process exists so that users can manage to sift
through the videos and find something interesting to watch. A similar process
exists on many video sites. We don't know about how other sites generate
statistics, but on YouTube, in every category, you could manipulate the
results. Let's face it, the
motivation is there because the stakes are so high. If you get
Hollywood's notice, you could be sitting next to Angelina and Brad in a couple
of months, eating organic ginger ice cream and walking home with a swag bag.
After scurrying around YouTube's site for just a couple of days, we don't think
that our keen senses are fooling us: there could be a number of video
"enthusiasts" who are trying to stay on top of the YouTube pile, all day long,
every day, in every category. If you are trying to market a video, this is
where you would want to be so that you might actually get your video watched..
Such self-made "success" could then beget real success and you may well continue
to get all the attention.
People on the internet, they are like us, the rabbit folk. When
running around the house like the blazes, we test every little crack and
crevice...just because we can.
